Open Access

What Open Access Means

Open Access describes how published research can be read and, depending on the applicable license, reused. Readers may be able to access eligible articles online, copyright remains with the relevant rights holder, and any further reuse depends on the license attached to that article.

Free to Read

An article can be read online without a subscription. This does not, by itself, say anything about reuse.

Free to Reuse

Reproducing, adapting, or redistributing an article depends entirely on the license it carries.

Open Access describes how research is accessed after publication — it is separate from how research is evaluated before publication, and it is not a measure of research quality.

Our Open Access Model

Open Access models across scholarly publishing range from journals with no author-facing fee to models funded through an Article Processing Charge, and vary in exactly when and how the published version becomes freely available.

PenScholar Journals’ specific Open Access model is being finalized and will be confirmed on each journal’s page rather than assumed to be any one of these approaches.

Access for Readers

Published articles are not placed behind a login or subscription paywall on this website. The version published on this website is the authoritative version of record, identified by its DOI and stable article URL.

Whether a PDF and HTML version are both available, and whether access applies immediately on publication, is confirmed per journal once articles are published.

Author Rights

The rights an author retains over their published work — including sharing, depositing a permitted version, or reuse for teaching — depend on the copyright and licensing arrangement of the journal they publish with. These are confirmed on each journal’s page.

Read Copyright Information

Copyright arrangements vary by journal — whether copyright is retained by the author, held by the publisher, or otherwise arranged is confirmed on each journal’s page. Open Access status does not, by itself, determine who holds copyright.

Creative Commons & Reuse

Where a journal adopts a Creative Commons or other license, that license will be displayed on the journal’s page along with a plain-language explanation of what it permits, what attribution it requires, and what restrictions apply. No specific license is assumed until one is adopted.

Attribution

Where reuse is permitted, attribution should generally retain the author, article title, journal, DOI, and license so the source remains traceable.

Third-Party Material

Open Access licensing may not automatically extend to images, figures, tables, or other material where separate third-party rights are held. Check the credit line for such material before reuse.

Publication Fees

Fee information for each journal, if applicable, is confirmed on that journal’s page. PenScholar Journals does not hide fee information once a journal’s model is finalized.

Making Research Discoverable

PenScholar Journals structures published articles with accurate metadata, DOIs, stable URLs, and author information so that properly published research can be discovered through appropriate scholarly services. Inclusion in any specific indexing or discovery service is not guaranteed and is not claimed here unless separately verified.

What to Know Before Publishing

  1. Choose a journal and review its scope and access model.
  2. Check whether a fee applies.
  3. Review the license and what it means for copyright and reuse.
  4. Submit through that journal’s manuscript submission system.
