Editorial Leadership

Editors

PenScholar editors provide academic leadership across the journals, helping guide editorial standards, peer review, and the development of each publication.

What Editors Are Responsible For

Academic Judgment

Editors assess manuscripts within the journal’s scope and editorial standards.

Research Integrity

Editors help maintain responsible scholarly publishing practices.

Fair Review

Editors coordinate appropriate peer review and consider reviewer feedback.

Editorial Independence

Editors make decisions according to established journal policies.

Editorial Roles

Not every role is used by every journal — the structure varies by publication.

  • Editor-in-Chief — Overall responsibility for a journal’s editorial direction.
  • Managing Editor — Coordinates day-to-day editorial operations.
  • Associate Editor — Manages review and decisions within a subject area.
  • Section Editor — Oversees a specific section of a journal.
  • Guest Editor — Leads a themed issue or special collection.
  • Editorial Advisory Role — Provides broader guidance on editorial direction.

Editorial Information Is Being Finalized

PenScholar is preparing the editorial structure for its journals. Verified editor profiles will appear here as appointments are confirmed.

Editorial Decision-Making

Editors weigh journal scope, manuscript quality, reviewer feedback, research integrity considerations, and editorial policy when making decisions. Reviewers provide expert assessment, but final editorial decisions are made according to the journal’s established editorial workflow.

Editorial Standards

Editorial Independence. Editorial decisions are guided by scholarly and journal policy rather than commercial interests.

Conflicts of Interest. Editors disclose and appropriately manage conflicts of interest — including personal relationships, institutional relationships, financial interests, recent collaboration, or direct competition.

Confidentiality. Editors may access unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, author information, and editorial correspondence, and must handle this information appropriately.

AI Tools & Editorial Confidentiality. Editors must protect confidential manuscript and reviewer information when using any external tool, including AI-assisted screening or summarization. Human editorial judgment remains responsible for the outcome.
